On Thursday August 18th 2011, the Obama administration announced that it would suspend deportation proceedings against many illegal immigrants who pose no threat to national security or public safety. There are over 300,000 illegal immigrants presently in deportation proceedings.

White House officials emphasized that they were not granting relief to a whole class of people, (NO AMNESTY) but would conduct a case-by-case review, using new standards intended to determine which case is low- and which is high-priority.
